Recreational Opportunities
At milepost 4 the Clemens Cabin trail junction travels 1 1/2 miles South to the Clemens cabin.  Possible 15-mile hike by connecting to the Primrose Trail.  Lost lake is a scenic trail with a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains and high alpine terrain.  Salmonberry patches are popular in August, near mile 4-5.  Wildlife includes marmots, mountain goats, and bears.  Review Alaska Department of Fish and Game hunting and fishing regulations.

This is a popular year round trail. Hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling are usual activities.  The route travels through spruce forests until timberline at mile 4. Consequently, firewood is unavailable beyond this point.

Special Considerations
Winter travel is possible via the winter route which is marked, but may be very icy for the first mile.  Whiteout conditions can be encountered in any season.  Be prepared for rapid weather changes.  Use caution with bear and moose.  Boil surface water for 5 minutes before drinking.  Remember to pack out your trash.  You can contact a U.S. Forest Service office to receive more detailed information on safety precautions.
